Wetlands Header 3.5

This butterfly is the Common Blue (Polyommatus icarus). What a shame this beautiful butterfly is given this rather disparaging name! It was photographed by one of our volunteers, John Fenn, on one of the Volunteer days this month. It is a female Common Blue as the top of the wings are a blue/brown shade (the male is a blue colour). The underwing is brown with orange markings (the male has a paler brown and blue colouration).
