On 17th January 2015 volunteers, residents and Ashtead Scouts planted over 1,000 hedge plants on the borders of the Rye Meadows. The trees were supplied at a discount by the Woodland Trust and were a mixture of Hawthorn, Blackthorn, Hazel, Crab Apple, Dogwood and Dog Rose. Although setting aside two days for the task the planting was achieved all in one day due to the excellent response from residents and the Scouts. A great big 'thank you' is due to everyone who helped. See the "Photo Gallery" for pictures.
The new hedge will take a while to become established but we hope will become a haven for birdlife in the area.
